Mandalas and Meditation

The Adventure of Blending Families

Centering Prayer Seminar

More information below.  Remember to register.

Mandalas and Mindfulness

The Mandala or circle drawing has been used since the beginning of human history to represent the moon, sun, and self.  It has been adopted by religious peoples as the symbol for the unconscious and a means by which we can begin to understand life, death and rebirth.  Combined with meditation and the opening that comes from quieting the mind and accessing our intuitive self and the divine, mandalas can open a pathway—and a prayerway—to self-understanding, healing and acceptance.

In this workshop participants will be introduced to meditation and mandalas, as well as ways of combining them for personal insight and spiritual growth.  This is not an experience designed for artists, but for seekers.  No artistic ability is required.

This workshop is not currently scheduled but can be arranged with a group or organization that wants to sponsor it.  Call Lacy Camp at 706-369-7911 ext 211 or lcamp@samaritannega.org.

Workshop leaders are Debra Alvis, Ph.D., and Lacy Camp, M.Ed..    Lacy has been in practice in Athens since 1984 and with Samaritan counseling Center since 1992.  She has a seminary background as well as being a licensed clinician.  She has studied the creating of mandalas with Susanne Fincher and has been tapping the ability to receive knowledge from our creative and intuitive selves all her life.

Debra Alvis is a psychologist in private practice in Athens and on the staff of the Counseling and Psychological Services in the University Health Center, University of Georgia.  Debra is a Yoga instructor and active practitioner of meditation.

Group therapy offers men a chance to observe and be observed by other men and a therapist in a social context. They can bring up a concern from home or work and get honest and constructive feedback from a variety of perspectives. Group also allows men to see how they present themselves in social interactions, and what personal and interpersonal issues emerge, that can be generalized to other parts of their lives. Direct, honest feedback is what you can expect from group therapy.

Achieving Emotional Integrity is a process based group that allows for the exploration of what you truly think and feel; what you need and want, and what you are experiencing. It is an opportunity to look within and communicate honestly in a safe and supportive environment. Why not see what men can learn form each other?
